Description
This exceptional antique carved teak column pedestal is a striking example of Indo-colonial architectural craftsmanship, likely originating from India in the late 19th to early 20th century (c. 1880–1930). Originally part of a traditional haveli, manor, or estate structure, this piece has been carefully preserved and repurposed as a decorative pedestal.
Hand-carved from solid teak wood, the column features detailed floral motifs, scrolling ornamentation, and a beautifully proportioned stepped base. The upper capital showcases traditional stylised floral carving, reflecting the influence of both Indian temple architecture and colonial design aesthetics.
Its naturally aged patina enhances its authenticity, giving it a warm, time-worn character that cannot be replicated in modern reproductions. The proportions and craftsmanship make it a versatile statement piece suitable for both classical and contemporary interiors.
Perfect as a sculptural pedestal in an entrance hall, living space, gallery, or boutique interior, this column can be used to display art objects, ceramics, religious figures, or indoor plants. It also works beautifully as a standalone decorative feature in a corner or architectural niche.
Each piece of this nature is truly unique, with its own history, wear, and hand-carved details, making it a collectible interior artifact as well as a functional design object. 38 x 38 x 86 h cm / 31kg
